Why did you come to Midland?

I came to Midland because I loved the small school aspect. Everyone here was so friendly and helpful and it just felt like home. I also really loved that I could get my degree while continuing the sport I love, cross country.

What do you enjoy most about living in the residence halls?

I enjoy the community the most. It is so fun getting to know your neighbors and getting close to them over the school year. Having a bond with those on your floor is like no other!

What makes Midland special?

What makes Midland special for me is when I can walk around campus, whether that is to class, the library, or the OSC, and always see someone I know and say “hi” to them. I love being able to chat and catch up with someone that I may not see often like I might have used to.

What advice do you have for incoming students?

Get involved! Getting involved on campus was a way for me to become who I am today – it really brought me out of my shell! Also, remember when you first get here as a freshman that everyone around you that is also a freshman is in the same boat as you! Don’t feel alone because someone will always be there to help you or relate to you! Everyone here wants you to succeed, so if you ever have a lot of trouble in a class getting help is not lame. Utilizing the tutor and supplemental instructor resources is really beneficial.

Why did you come to Midland?

I came to Midland because of the engaging and inviting faculty that I met on my visit, but I stayed for the people. I still am amazed every day by the uplifting, hard-working nature of Midland that embodies the Warrior mascot.

What do you enjoy most about living in the residence halls?

I love meeting new people every year and hearing every individual story. Every person is different and that makes every day within the residence halls another opportunity to learn new information.

What makes Midland special?

The people. Brick and mortar change, but the people of Midland from a thematic standpoint do not. Warriors are special people and to be surrounded by them every day makes me a better person.

What advice do you have for incoming students?

GET INVOLVED. You will meet life-long friends in very unexpected places and the more people you know, the more you will have the chance of having an impact on the life of another person. It is extremely rewarding to get out of a comfort zone and you will be rewarded for it here at Midland University.

Brian Neely

Class of 2022
Arts Management with Theatre Concentration

Why did you come to Midland?

I had the opportunity to be involved with the arts and I also enjoyed the small community feel.

What do you enjoy most about living in the residence halls?

Getting to participate in different activities every day and being able to connect with people different from myself.

What makes Midland special?

The support system that is offered and the opportunities.

What advice do you have for incoming students?

Always prioritize self-care over your studies, but never prioritize your socialization over your studies. Taking care of your mental, physical, and emotional health is incredibly important in order to be a great student. However, students still have responsibilities and you are paying for your education in college. So it is important that you are staying on top of your homework and taking your education seriously!
