Erin Baum | Faces of Midland

You Can Do Great Things

“You can do great things, but not everyone is going to recognize they are great,” is a perspective Erin Baum tries to keep on a daily basis. Even if you aren’t seen doing good work, that doesn’t mean it isn’t worth doing, regardless of where you are in your life.

A senior from Firestone, Colorado, Erin is majoring in criminal justice and sociology. Erin is keeping her options open post-graduation, though she is leaning towards something in juvenile delinquency.

As a transfer to Midland, Erin is no stranger to being the “new kid” in the classroom. Throughout her life, forming strong friendships has always been a struggle. When she visited Midland, she felt like she found a place where she could change that narrative.

“I fell in love with the campus when I visited and just felt very welcomed here. It was the only school that I felt really wanted me to succeed and would help me reach my goals.”

At Midland, Erin made sure to quickly get involved. Not only is she a member of the Midland women’s golf team, but she is also involved with Phi Omega, SAAC, and works as a student ambassador for admissions. As a naturally shy individual, Erin made sure she took the opportunity to get involved during her time at Midland.

“I am really proud of how much I have gotten involved on campus. It is not something that I would have done previously and it has really changed my college experience.”

As a senior, Erin wants to stress to incoming freshmen that your college experience is so much more fulfilling when you get involved on campus. Whether it is an event or an activity, having a presence on campus and putting your best self out there is what it means to be a Warrior.

“Being a Warrior means waking up each morning and putting your best foot forward and working hard to be the best version of yourself.”

Erin Baum is a senior criminal justice and sociology major from Firestone, CO. To share your story or nominate a friend, email social@midlandu.edu or post using #FacesofMidland.
