Midland University Career & Internship Fair Provides Students with Countless Networking Opportunities

04/09/25

Midland University’s Career & Internship Fair is a one-stop shop for students seeking internships, scoping out employment opportunities, practicing job interviewing skills, or simply introducing themselves to business professionals.

The annual event usually draws more than 70 businesses from across Fremont, Omaha, Lincoln, and the surrounding areas.

“We want our students networking with potential employers, so we invite all of our students, whether they have one semester under their belt or are ready to graduate, to be a part of this event,” said Taylor Tucker, Director for the Midland University Career Studio. “We want them to explore part-time or internship opportunities, and start exploring what they could potentially do with their degrees. We want them to know who is out there, and what those places might be looking for.”

Tucker said it’s important to have a wide range of employment opportunities available to students and said the 2025 version of the Career & Internship Fair, which was held on March 26, featured opportunities covering every one of Midland’s 30-plus majors.

“We work hard to have every major represented,” she said. “That includes places like schools, healthcare, law enforcement, financial institutions, and agriculture.”

Sarah Shepard, a Digital Marketing major, is graduating in May. The Career & Internship Fair provided her a chance to shake hands with potential employers and get her name into the workforce sector.

“I learned a lot about career opportunities, internship opportunities, as well as talking to professionals and learning how they got to where they are today,” she said. “As someone who is graduating soon, I wanted to look at marketing opportunities and network in that field.

“I also got the chance to meet with some Midland alumni and it was great to hear their journeys and ask for any advice they have in pursuing a certain career.”

Tucker said businesses are eager to meet with students and start the conversation for future employment. “Recruiters are knocking on our door to get on campus, and this is a great way for us to host many of them,” Tucker said. “Companies love our students and we hear great feedback from them, especially with internships.”

As much as it’s a learning experience for students, organizations can also utilize these meetings as a learning tool. “You won’t survive if you can’t adapt to what this generation is looking for,” Tucker said. “These companies are eager to engage in these conversations because they are looking to bring in young talent.”

Eloy Demarquet, a senior Business Intelligence & Technology major, believes students should take advantage of the resources available during the Career & Internship Fair.

“It’s a great way to get to know people from around the area,” he said. “It’s valuable for students to be able to ask questions, and maybe even line up a job.”

Hundreds of Midland students made their way through the event, which provides them another avenue to a successful career.

“Whenever I talk with students afterwards, they are thankful for the opportunity to meet with so many different people,” Tucker said. “You can see them light up when they are having those conversations with potential employers.”
