May 16th , 2018

Midland University presented its highest student honor to a West Point, Nebraska, native during its Undergraduate Commencement ceremony on May 12 in the Wikert Event Center. Gabby Knobbe was presented the John R. Prauner Senior Award by Midland President Jody Horner.

Knobbe, the daughter of John and Jane Knobbe, graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education, K-8, from the Walker School of Education. She also studied Special Education and earned a K-6 Subject Endorsement.

While at Midland, Knobbe was a 2016 NAIA Scholar-Athlete as a member of the Warrior volleyball team, was named to Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges, received the 2017 Outstanding Student Program Award, and was on the President’s List six straight semesters.

Knobbe’s work with the Midland Love Your Melon Crew earned her recognition. She was a founding member of the organization, which raises money for pediatric cancer research by selling Love Your Melon hats and clothing. Funds raised also provide hats for children who are undergoing cancer treatment.

The award is named in memory of John R. Prauner, 1955-1977, and is presented annually to the member of the Midland senior class who best exemplifies scholarship and citizenship, the outstanding qualities for which Prauner was known before his death during his senior year. Prauner was a leader in numerous academic and social organizations who died of Immunoblastic Lymphoma, a rare form of cancer.

Knobbe was one of 256 students who participated in Commencement ceremonies on May 11-12. Students in Graduate Programs were honored during a ceremony on May 11 in the Wikert Event Center.
