Hannah Meyer has found a supportive community at Midland University, where she’s growing academically and personally on her path to becoming a dietitian.
Hannah, a senior from Fremont, is getting her Biology major with minors in Nutrition and Chemistry. Coming out of high school, she sought a college that would fit the small community-type mold. Both her parents attended Midland, so she already knew quite a bit about the school.
At first, she wasn’t sure Midland would be the right place because it was close to home. “I kind of wanted to be a little bit different and not follow family tradition, but Midland ended up being the right choice for me. It has been nice to be close to my home and family.”
Hannah enjoys the fact that she can go anywhere on campus and see friendly faces and people she knows. “People can tell if you are having a bad day, and someone might stop me and ask how I’m doing. We’re here to encourage everybody and look after each other.”
At Midland, Hannah is a part of residence life and recently joined the swim team. She started her Midland career in track and field, but a severe knee injury last season altered those plans for her senior year. “I tore a lot of things in my knee, and so now I’m trying swimming just so I can stay in athletics.”
When it comes to academics and a career path, Hannah plans on becoming a dietician. She chose Biology because of its similarities to nutrition and added a chemistry minor because it helps with requirements for grad school. After graduation, Hannah plans on staying in the state and getting her Masters degree in nutrition.
Since coming to Midland, Hannah feels that she has grown a lot academically and socially. She also said that her professors have helped get her to where she is now.
“They’re very open to answer questions, and I see them as mentors. They guide you in the right direction, and they give you resources you need to be successful.”
