A Supportive Community
Cali Cordova, a senior Financial Services major from Bushland, Texas, found a supportive community at Midland University that has helped her grow personally and professionally.
Growing up in a small town, Cali sought a place and people with interests she could relate to. “I had a very small friend group in high school and we all took different paths. I was ready to find people that were on similar paths as me to grow with.”
When originally looking at Midland in high school for powerlifting, she thought it would be in Midland, Texas. Cali didn’t think she would like Nebraska much, but once she arrived she loved it.
On campus, Cali is on the powerlifting team and is part of FBLA Collegiate. Cali likes the culture at Midland and credits her professors and peers for pushing her to thrive. “Not only have I found my people, but the professors here have helped me grow so much. They are all my biggest fans, advocates, and my biggest inspirations. I definitely couldn’t do it without them.”
She said her professors have pushed her to do things she didn’t think she was capable of doing herself. “Even something as small as offering to take me to a tour or conference has made such a difference in my professional development. I couldn’t have done it without them.”
Cali chose to major in financial services because she wanted to learn how to understand different companies. “I’ve discovered that learning the business and finances of any company can tell you much more about a company than anything else, and that is really important to me.”
Cali has learned that so many resources are available to students at Midland and said that it is almost impossible to not flourish on campus. “Whether it’s athletically, professionally, or even personally, there are an unlimited number of resources available to become the best version of yourself possible.”
After graduating in May, Cali plans to pursue her Masters degree through Midland’s MBA program.
