HEERF – Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund

American Rescue Plan: Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF III)

Midland University continues to provide emergency financial aid grants to students whose lives have been impacted by the COVID-19 crisis, many of whom are facing financial challenges.

In Spring 2022, grants are being funded by the federal government through the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) III, established by the American Rescue Plan (ARP).

About the American Rescue Plan (HEERF III)

The Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund III (HEERF III) is authorized by the American Rescue Plan (ARP) and was signed into law on March 11, 2021. The fund provides support to institutions of higher education to serve students and ensure learning continues during the COVID-19 pandemic.

ARP funds are in addition to funds authorized by the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021 (CRRSAA), and the Coronavirus Aid, Recovery, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. These awards are separate from additional financial aid students may receive from Midland University.

Who is Eligible for a HEERF III student award?

All eligible students received an email from Student Billing on February 25, 2022.  If you did not receive this email, you did not meet the parameters as defined below. No exceptions can be allowed.

Who was eligible? – An effort was made to focus this round of awards towards students with exceptional need. Existing, accepted, and verified FAFSA data was used to define exceptional need.

To receive a disbursement of federal aid through the HEERF III program for the Spring 2022 term, a Midland student must:

  • Be an undergraduate student
  • Be enrolled for spring semester as of February 25, 2022;
  • Have completed a FAFSA for 2021-2022 by February 21, 2022; and
  • Be eligible for Title IV financial aid, with an estimated family contribution (EFC) of $20,392 or less.
  • Have not received a previous HEERF award during the Spring 2022 term.
How much will I receive?

Awards are limited to $1,000 and are determined based on several factors, including but not limited to Pell Grant recipients, recipients of institutional need-based aid, and recipients of other non-institutional need-based aid. Awards may also be limited based on the number of applicants and funding availability.

What can the award be used for?

Emergency Grants may be used for any component of the student’s cost of attendance or for emergency costs that arise due to coronavirus, such as tuition, food, housing, health care (including mental health care), childcare, and other educational expenses.
