Our auditions are laid back. Though talent is one of our considerations, we care most about your potential and desire to learn. Significant scholarships are offered to individuals who consider themselves: team players, teachable, positive influences, passionate, dependable, driven to learn, creative, able to commit, and willing to share their talents in ways that make our program – and the world – a better place. We easily accommodate students of all experience levels!
Audition Requirements
Please prepare a solo piece of your choice. You will also be asked to sight-read excerpts of the following genres: choral open-score, musical theatre, and standard vocal and/or instrumental classical literature. You must audition in person.
You will interview with the Speech & Debate Coach either in person or via video. You will be asked to discuss your interests, competition experiences, and prior participation in Speech & Debate. If you have portfolio materials, you are invited to present those, but it is not required for scholarship consideration.
You will be asked to play whatever you play best. Whether that is a solo piece, a selection from your concert band music, marching music, or even scales, bring what you love to play. You must provide your own instrument, except for percussion instruments, and tubas (please provide your own mouthpiece).
You may audition in person or via video.
Students are asked to prepare:
- Scales – Two scales of your choice, and with the number of octaves that accurately reflect your technique.
- Solo piece – Two to three minutes of a polished solo piece that shows your technical and musical abilities.
You may submit an audition via video.
You will be asked to sing a selection of whatever you sing best, whether that is your favorite show-tune, pop song, aria, or even choral piece. You will also be asked to sing vocal exercises. You may audition in person or via video.
Please bring either a prepared 30-Second monologue or a 32-bar musical theatre song. Cold readings will also be provided if you do not have a monologue prepared. Please submit an audition via video.
Bring at least 60 seconds of prepared choreography in any style of your choice (ballet, jazz, hip hop, etc). You will also be asked to demonstrate front and side battements (straight-legged kicks), pirouettes on the right and left sides, and a leap of your choice on the right and left sides.
You may submit an audition in person or via video. If you are auditioning in person, music should be brought on a Bluetooth or aux-compatible device.
You will interview with a member of our Technical Arts staff either in person or via video. You’ll be asked to discuss your interests, experiences, and prior participation in technical arts. If you have portfolio materials, you are invited to present those, but it is not required for scholarship consideration.
You will interview with a member of our Studio Arts staff either in person or via video. You’ll be asked to discuss your interests, experiences, and prior participation in studio arts. Please provide a portfolio of your past works.
