Rex Barker has been at Midland University since fall of 2015. In addition to his leadership of the instrumental program, Rex was chosen as the Director of Performing Arts in 2016. He received the Donald A. Lentz Outstanding Bandmaster Award from the Nebraska State Bandmasters Association, which recognizes an individual who has made an outstanding contribution throughout his career. Rex was a teacher, director, and head of the music department in a 27-year career at MIllard South High School in Omaha. He also served as head of instrumental music for all Millard Public Schools. In 2014, Rex was also named the "Outstanding Music Educator in Nebraska" and in 2001, School Band and Orchestra magazine selected him as one of its "50 Directors Who Make a Difference." Rex earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Education from Kearney State College in 1981 and in 1992, he received a Master of Music Education from the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
