Dr. Susan Wood comes from Delaware County, Ohio.  She has a bachelor's degree from Carleton College in Asian Studies and a Master's in Comparative Literature from Washington University, having studied Chinese for seven years and lived and studied in Nanjing, China, and Taipei, Taiwan.  Dr. Wood later received a Ph.D. in English from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, specializing in eighteenth- and nineteenth-century British fiction.  Dr. Wood has long taught both expository writing and literature and considers her main areas of interest to be British fiction of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, American literature, especially nineteenth-century American, literature by multi-ethnic writers, and world literature, especially that of China.  She has made presentations in the last decade about writing instruction, Frances Burney, early American captivity narratives, native American literature, and Willa Cather.  Dr. Wood teaches Composition, Orange Humanities, Introduction to Literature, World Voices, Ethnic Literature, Plains Literature, British Literature 1 & 2, and Shakespeare.
