No.6 Midland University volleyball defeats Hastings College, 3-2

Hastings, Neb. – No.6 Midland University earned a 3-2 (25-20, 27-25, 16-25, 23-25, 15-11) road victory over Hastings College on Wednesday.  The win puts the Warriors in second place in the conference standing with two regular season contests remaining.

“I didn’t feel that we were at our sharpest offensively tonight,” said Paul Giesselmann, Midland University volleyball head coach. “But I love how this team continues to find ways to win when our backs are against the wall.”

With the victory Midland earns its 30th win of the year, tying an institutional record for most wins in a season that dates back to 1980.

The Warriors jumped ahead early, taking the match’s first two sets. The Broncos rebounded by winning set three and using a narrow 25-23 victory to force a fifth set. In the final set, Hastings jumped out to a 10-7 lead. However, the sixth-ranked Warriors used an 8-1 run to take the fifth set and seal a 3-2 victory.

KC Heimann led Midland with 16 kills while Ashlee Harms landed 14 kills, two block assists and one solo block. Mackenzie Scheef downed 10 kills with one block assist and one solo block.  Molly Pettit was the Warrior dig leader with 16, and Becca Gradoville added 15 digs. Megan Farley put up 49 set assists with 14 digs.

The win lifts No.6 Midland University to 30-2 on the season and 12-2 in the GPAC. Hastings College drops to 19-11 overall and 10-4 in the conference. The Warriors will host No.5 Northwestern College on Saturday, Nov.2. First serve will be at 1:30 p.m.
