Morgan Pettit, Associate Registrar | Faces of Midland: Employee Edition
Making an Impact
When you grow up in a family full of teachers, you’re almost destined to end up working in education. So it should come as no surprise Morgan Pettit’s career path led her to Midland University.
As she nears her one-year anniversary working as the Associate Registrar, Morgan is glad she has found her own way to impact the lives of students.
“I have always had a passion for supporting individuals on their life path. I was raised in a family of teachers, and I knew it was an area I was interested in, but I wasn’t sure what my path would look like. In graduate school, I was focusing on social work/counseling when I received an amazing opportunity to work directly with students providing higher education support services. This experience helped me realize higher education was the place I wanted to make an impact.”
As Associate Registrar, Morgan assists students in many ways, including academic records, program requirements, transfer credits, class schedules, transcripts, and much more. Morgan’s proud that her work helps students work to complete their college journey. “The best part of my day is being able to assist students, even if it’s as simple as answering questions about transcripts and their program. The excitement that students have when they finally receive their diploma makes this position so fulfilling! I enjoy that interaction and being a helpful resource.”
Morgan’s passion for helping students might be rivaled by her love of science fiction, especially when it comes to Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter. Her spare time is also occupied with her dogs, family, binge-watching random shows, and occasional painting.
In her daily interactions with students, Morgan hopes she can impart on them the importance of trying new things each and every day. “Many students may come to college with a specific major or path, but I think it’s important for them to take a class they are interested in, even if it’s not in their field of study. A student’s academic path can change and there are many resources on campus to help them figure out what is right for them. I would also encourage them to join organizations and go to as many events as possible. You would be surprised how helpful all those experiences may be after college!”
