Midland University to present “Peter and the Starcatcher”

Mar 6th , 2018

Midland University Performing Arts students will transport audiences back to a time before there was a Peter Pan or Captain Hook when they present “Peter and the Starcatcher” on March 8-11 at Kimmel Theatre.

“It's a prequel to ‘Peter Pan.’ We meet Peter Pan before he even has a name. Wendy doesn’t even exist yet. It’s the story of how they become those characters in the first place,” Director Lee Meyer says. “The whole thing is filled with action, and it’s very funny. There is a lot of humor, and there’s even some singing in it."

Based on the novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, “Peter and the Starcatcher” explores how a young orphan ultimately becomes Peter Pan. Explore the depths of greed and despair and the bonds of friendship, duty, and love through a tale of thieving pirates, jungle tyrants, unwilling comrades, and unlikely heroes.

“Imagination is the heart of the whole play,” Meyer says.

“We don’t have wonderfully realistic sets. We use other things so that you can use your imagination,” Meyer says. “Even if you didn't know Peter Pan, it’s a story on its own. As the story develops, you’ll pick up where Peter Pan starts and why Peter Pan even exists.”

“Peter and the Starcatcher” hits the Kimmel Theatre stage at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 8, through Saturday, March 10, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 11. Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for seniors, students, and Fremont-Midland Entertainment Series members. Order your tickets online at or by calling the box office at 402-941-6399.
