Midland students compete in pumpkin carving contest

Midland University Intramurals hosted the first annual Midland Pumpkin Carving Contest on Monday, Oct. 22. For the event, students packed into the Hopkins Event Center to show their creativity, Halloween spirit and pumpkin carving skills.

“This is a great activity and a chance for everyone to get involved,” said Theo Bland, the head of intramurals at Midland University. “Students have fun and get to know other students from all across campus.”

In Monday’s competition, each group had 30 minutes to carve a pumpkin in a way of their choosing.  Pictures of the finished results have been uploaded to Facebook, and whichever group’s picture receives the most “likes” will be declared the contest’s winner. Winners will earn an Applebee’s gift card and a year’s worth of bragging rights.

Voting is open to the public and will end on Friday, Oct. 26 at noon. To see all of the carvings and vote, go to
