Respiratory Therapy is an allied health specialty instrumental in providing diagnosis, treatment, management and preventive care of patients with cardio/pulmonary problems. The program is a bachelor’s degree program typically completed in three years at Midland followed by an 11-month clinical rotation at Alegent. Students complete all of the requirements and earn the bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy. This allows the student to take advanced human physiology, accounting, personnel management, genetics and/or education courses prior to the clinical year.

Selection for the clinical training is competitive. Students should have an overall grade point average of 2.50 and a 3.00 average in the required prerequisite courses for this program. Students make formal application to the respiratory therapy admission committee at Alegent Health during the term immediately before they plan to begin the specific respiratory therapy clinical course sequence. Admission to Alegent Health is competitive, and applicants are notified by the admissions committee of their status for the clinical training.
